The Rising Spirits Initiative is a nonprofit organization grounded in faith and driven by compassion. We work to bridge the gap between adversity and achievement, focusing on Indigenous youth.
Our goal is to support these remarkable individuals as they pursue their dreams and make lasting impacts on their families, communities, and the world.

Coda Kusick
Executive
Director

Coda Kusick, a proud member of the Cherokee Nation, is a passionate advocate for Indigenous youth and families. Born and raised in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Coda grew up immersed in Cherokee traditions and values. After earning a degree in Nonprofit Management from the University of Oklahoma, Coda worked with community organizations to address disparities in healthcare access for Indigenous children.
As Executive Director of the Rising Spirits Initiative, Coda leads efforts to grant life-changing wishes to Indigenous Youth who show exceptional promise and resilience, blending cultural traditions with impactful programs.
Michael Smith
Operations
Manager

Michael Smith founded and managed a successful public relations firm that operated in New York and San Diego for over three decades.
Now retired from the industry, he works harder than ever in the non-profit sector, dedicating himself fully to fulfilling the wishes of the youth involved in the Rising Spirits program. After retiring to New Mexico, he developed a deep passion for indigenous culture and sought opportunities to volunteer and improve conditions for those less fortunate. Michael believes there is no better way to express gratitude for life than through the uplifting work of Rising Spirits.
Maggie Graham
Community Outreach

Maggie Graham spent over two decades developing youth programs in partnership with non-profits, schools, and community organizations. Her work has focused on creating opportunities for children facing systemic barriers, with a particular emphasis on education, mental health, and cultural engagement.
As the Director of Community Outreach at Rising Spirits Initiative, Maggie works tirelessly to connect Indigenous youth with resources, mentorship, and opportunities that honor their heritage while building their futures. Known for her warmth and vision, she believes that every child deserves a chance to thrive and make their dreams a reality.
